The ceremony of awarding the Tricolore by the members of District 108 TB of the “Lions Clubs International” association took place this morning in the Bronzi room of Palazzo Civico. The delivery is part of the project launched by the district in the various provinces that host the belonging clubs, including La Spezia, as part of the national celebrations for the Tricolore Festival which takes place on 7 January each year.
The date chosen for this day recalls 7 January 1797, when the Parliament of the newly formed Cispadana Republic, the first sovereign Italian State, proclaimed the flag of the three colors green, white and red “universal”, respectively symbol of hope of freedom, faith and love of homeland. The red also recalls the blood of those who died for the unification of Italy. In 1947, the Constituent Assembly approved the Tricolor “with vertical bands of equal dimensions” as the Flag of the Italian Republic and included it in Article 12 of the Constitution.
“An initiative with a high symbolic value – declares the mayor – which intends to remember the principles on which our nation is founded and which we must continue to pursue in the name of a future based on freedom, democracy, solidarity, respect and altruism. Principles that are also the inspiration for an activity carried out for decades by Lions Clubs throughout Italy, always on the front line to face social challenges, promote health, education and culture for all”.
The ceremony was attended by the mayor Peracchini, the governor of District 108 TB “Lions Clubs International”, the lawyer Giorgio Ferroni and the district delegate of the “Onore Al Tricolore” committee Enrico Pollina, as well as the presidents of the clubs belonging to District 108 TB who are located in the territory of the Province of La Spezia, which are: La Spezia Host, La Spezia degli Ulivi, Lerici Golfo dei Poeti, Sarzana and Ceparana. The flag that was hoisted at the municipal arena.
