Tourism in Siena for the April and May long weekends. “We have positive signs, especially for long-distance tourism. However, there are many more unknowns for short-haul operations.” This is how Filippo Grassi, provincial president of Assoturismo Confesercenti Siena summarizes the perception of the hospitality sector and public businesses in Siena, in view of the period 25 April – 1 May.

A central hub for the first part of the 2024 tourist season, also considering the absence of a long weekend in conjunction with next June 2nd (Sunday): “This year we started with a low Easter, which was also satisfactory except for Monday on Easter Monday, complicated by the rain – observes Grassi –; However, the level of requests for hotels and restaurants immediately proved to be high, and this seems to continue. There is an unknown bad weather which, however, could reduce an excellent spring into something much more limited, lower than what was recorded a year ago”.

Above all, the operators most exposed to domestic tourism, i.e. those who can travel to Siena and its province within a few hours, and will decide whether or not to do so the evening before if not the day, seem to be in the balance during the long weekends in April and May. himself: “We have also seen in the recent past how the Italian segment remains in difficulty, compared to foreign flows – observes Grassi – and on this front, good or bad weather makes the difference. Those who may suffer above all will be those who have invested in hospitality in open spaces, be they terraces, parks or gardens: we must hope that in the heart of the next bridge things will get better”.
