A quick and decisive intervention by the police after the report of an elderly person in difficulty on the train
The Carabinieri of Bisceglie arrested a fugitive identified as Rachid Michel, of Lebanese origins, thanks to the report of an elderly passenger on the Intercity night train. The elderly man, finding himself in difficulty, contacted the emergency number 112, allowing the military to intervene promptly at the train station.
Michel, who had a history of theft, robbery, personal injury and resisting a public official, had evaded the obligations to stay in the municipality imposed after his release from Vibo Valentia prison. Trying to steal the phone from the elderly man on the train, he was intercepted and arrested by the police, who identified him even though he had no documents. The arrest occurred following the recognition of a precautionary custody order in prison issued by the Court of Appeal of Bari and a subsequent fugitive decree.
Thanks to the collaboration of the operator of the 112 Operations Center and the rapid intervention of the Carabinieri of the Bisceglie Police Department, Michel was taken to the Bari Prison, where he will await trial for the crimes accused of him.
