THE WELDER OF VAJONT (MARSILIO) – ANTONIO BORTOLUZZI

On Monday 22 April, at 6.30pm, the ItalyPost Bookshop in Padua will offer a moment of tribute to the collective memory of one of the most tragic disasters in Italian history. On the occasion of the “Economic Mondays”, in fact, the writer Antonio Bortoluzzi will present the book “The welder of the Vajont” (Marsilio), which offers an intense and profound narration of the epic linked to the construction of the Vajont dam and the catastrophe of October 9, 1963, when a colossal landslide destroyed thousands of lives and entire communities. Through the figure of the welder, Bortoluzzi guides us on an emotional and historical journey that explores the double reality of industrial progress and its devastating consequences. A memory of the personal and professional experiences lived in the shadow of the dam, from the years of the protagonist’s peasant youth to his years of factory work, reflecting on how modernization has radically transformed work and life in the Alpine valleys. Free entry event.

I-FOOD HOW TO ESCAPE FOOD IDEOLOGY? (GUERINI) – PIETRO PAGANINI

The next event of the “Food Tuesdays” cycle, scheduled for Tuesday 23 April at 6.30 pm in the ItalyPost bookshop in Padua, will see the presence of the well-known economic and (geo)political popularizer Pietro Paganini who will present “i-Food as an escape from food ideology?” (Guerini). In the meeting of great importance in the field of modern food criticism, Paganini will delve into the complex dynamics between public policies, geopolitical and commercial strategies that influence the control of food production and public health, highlighting how the so-called “iPhonization” of nutrition is being used for political and commercial purposes. Through a critical analysis, the author reveals how advertising and media campaigns tend to standardize diets, compromising individual diversity and freedom of choice. An approach that denounces a dominant ideology that also offers an alternative perspective: the personalization of nutrition. Free admission.

MIND THE GAP. UNIQUENESS AND INCLUSION FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF SOCIAL AND GOVERNANCE PERFORMANCE IN COMPANIES (FLACCOVIO EDITORE) – CINZIA PILO

As part of the “Reading Fridays” on April 26th, at 6.30pm, the ItalyPost Bookshop in Padua will host a crucial event for those interested in the intersection between social inclusion and corporate performance. The event will feature Cinzia Pilo, manager for social impact and president of non-profit organisations, who will present her book “Mind the gap” (Flaccovio Editore), in which she deals in depth with the topic of discrimination in all its shapes, analyzing the impact of disparities on genders, disabilities, sexual orientations, age, ethnic groups and geographical origins. Through an examination of the historical and cultural roots of discrimination, especially gender, the author explores how these inequalities are reflected in corporate structures and society as a whole.
