“Rome, Paris and I hope to play in the Olympics”

After losing in the first round of qualifying for the Australian Open, Luciano Darderi he completely changed pace and experienced an exploit capable of taking him up to 60th position in the world ranking. For the Italian-Argentine the first title on the major circuit arrived in Cordoba, where he defeated tennis players of the caliber of Sebastian Ofner And Sebastian Baez before overcoming in the last act of the tournament Facundo Bagnis.

In Madrid, Darderi also found his first success in a Masters 1000 by clearing out Gael Monfils. The 22-year-old’s goal is to give himself other important satisfactions during the clay season. Darderi is currently playing at the Cagliari Challenger and will face them in the round of 16 Camilo Ugo Carabelli.

Luciano Darderi reveals his next goals

“From February onwards I actually started playing at a very high level, but also from the end of last year I was clearly growing. I hope to continue like this and go even higher in the rankings.

I expect to do well from the Challenger in Cagliari, but for me it will above all be a test for the Internazionali in Rome, where I will be at the start for the first time. Expressing yourself at your best at the Foro Italico will be an objective, but ultimately there are many objectives: there are the Roland Garrosthe Olympics and even a Davis Cup appearance.

I have to stay focused to be able to reach all the goals I have in mind,” Darderi told SuperTennis. “First of all I hope to be able to qualify, even if it won’t be easy because there are many players in front of me, and others behind me who are growing and could surpass me.

I think that playing in an Olympics at just 22 years old would be something incredible, an unexpected achievement. But if I don’t succeed, there will be another opportunity, I remain positive thinking about what my opportunities will be.”
