Passengers at the airport with millions of undeclared euros

The non-verbal language expressed by arriving or departing passengers only in 2023 helped the officials of the Customs and Monopolies Agency (Adm), also with the support of the financial police, to identify in theGalileo Galilei airport in Pisa undeclared cash for a total amount of almost 2.5 million euros, then seizing over 83 kilos of tobacco, over 200 pieces of illegal medicines, products that do not meet safety requirements such as 49 kilos of cosmetics, 6 thousand medical devices, as well as 468 kilos of food.

“There behavioral psychology and the profiling techniques – explains an Adm note – they become part of the daily work of the officials of the Customs and Monopolies Agency who operate in the ports and airports of Tuscany and Umbria. The checks on departing and arriving travelers thus become increasingly accurate and effective and allow us to more easily identify passengers who, for various reasons, transport illicit material or, in any case, which needs to be declared. They belong to this category couriers, traffickers of substances or goods, but also naive passengers who unknowingly do not comply with customs provisions relating to the transport of goods”.
