More inconveniences due to bad weather, due to rain. In the city in the early afternoon yesterday, municipal technicians carried out a thorough inspection of the Estense Gallery to verify the origin of the water infiltration which occurred in the Velazquez room without causing damage to the works. The origin of the infiltration, due to the exceptional rain combined with the wind, was found in the ducting of the air conditioning system, in correspondence with a dormer window.

As soon as the roof is dry (for safety reasons, work cannot be carried out on wet roofs) the repair work is scheduled. In the meantime, in agreement with the museum management and in anticipation of further heavy rain, some buffer solutions have been identified to still guarantee the visit route and make the works safe.

But it didn’t end here. In Modena there is damage, in particular due to fallen plants. Moving to the Bassa, the forecast of the meteorologist Lombroso is confirmed who for yesterday and today predicted “one of the most critical situations for storms, wind, rain and hail”. “Storms – according to the forecast – are typically localized, but can hit some areas hard while others remain dry.” This was the case yesterday in Concordia where the afternoon passed in an alternation of violent rains interrupted by some clear spells. The heavy rainfall has created inconvenience especially in the countryside and in some peripheral areas. In Fossa in the afternoon, with the rain, hail also fell, albeit of modest size, which damaged some crops, such as the cherry tree, on some strips of agricultural land. The situation in the center is more critical, where in the musicians area, behind the city cemetery in various residential secondary streets, via Paganini, via Vivaldi, via Mascagni, but also via Fratelli Cavazza the water has stagnated for a long time due to the lack of drains or the level reached by the sewage system, even reaching levels of 10 centimeters enough to prevent people from going out and to make transit dangerous. Fortunately, no flooding of basements and garages was reported, but the situation seemed serious throughout the afternoon and the incessant rain did not help the flow. The situation is also serious in the countryside due to the filled ditches which have overflowed, flooding many extensions of agricultural land.
