Tartan Prancer, the ugliest car in the world: it repudiates every aesthetic canon

In the glossy world of Hollywood, where nothing should be out of place or awkward, the Tartan Prancer is the exception that proves the rule. Inserted in a famous comedy, How I ruin your holidayshas “earned” the title of ugliest car in the world. A real eyesore for design lovers, the perfect synthesis of how it can be the exact opposite of everything it is possible to make mistakes.

Mirrored “Side A” and “Side B”.

The style of the Tartan Prancer is disjointed, devoid of any aesthetic coherence, as if the authors had created it overnight, without a study behind it. It is so re-watchable that it resembles a patchwork of different vehicles assembled as best as possible, with an almost identical “side A” and “side B”.excluding the slight inclination of the windscreen/rear window.

The four rear-view mirrors are superfluous, a useless display of functionality, a sign of a total disinterest in elegance and practicality. The three counters used for refueling are equally astounding.

What could have driven the designers to include so many of them? Everyone gave personal answers on the matter, without ever reaching a conclusion that everyone could agree on. This is because there appears to be no valid reason behind the curious decision.

Equally reviewable living room

In addition to the at least revisable bodywork, iThe on-board lounge, in turn, lends itself to criticism. The cup holders in the door handles, the internal water fountain, the removable steering wheel and a remote control with indecipherable symbols (rabbit, scissors, paper, etc.) worsen the overall rating.

Ultimately, the Tartan Prancer represents a car of dubious origin, a synthesis of what was worst in the industry of the time. Defined “the Honda of Albania”embodies the various clichés about the four-wheel sector in Eastern Europe, as if time had stopped in the 1980s, although the car was released in 2015, strictly at the cinema.

Made in a total of seven examplestook shape only for the film, a comedy written and directed by John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein.

Worse than its predecessor (and it wasn’t easy)

The cast includes well-known faces in the world of the big screen, including Ed Helms and Christina Applegate as the Griswold parents, Rusty and Debbie. The film is a remake of a 1983 feature film, National Lampoon’s Vacation: at the time the choice fell on “Wagon Queen Family” Truckster.

Not a surprise, actually. The station wagon, complete with wooden exterior panels, was already kitsch enough, but the heights reached (so to speak!) were not enough. There remained “margins for improvement”, hence the ad hoc plan developed.

A provocation done and finished, in the ropes of comedy. The final product pushes the limits of imagination, to the point that products such as the Fiat Duna, Nissan Cube and Ssangyong Rodius look good in comparison. Whether the latter were not expressly designed to be ugly is another story.
