In Crotone, humanity does not stop: the release of Humanity 1 has been confirmed

The Court of Crotone put it in black and white: that of the so-called Libyan Coast Guard was a “non-existent” rescue operation. And therefore the operations conducted by the crew of Humanity 1, which reports to the German NGO SOS Humanity, which last March 4 managed to save 77 migrants in difficulty, several of whom had thrown themselves into the sea to escape the patrol boats, it was completely legitimate. And precisely for this reason it confirmed the release from seizure after the ship, which arrived in Crotone with the migrants on board, had been seized as a result of the Piantedosi Decree. The judge of the civil section of the Court of Crotone, Altonio Albenzio, issued an order confirming the provision of last March 19th.

In the reasons the judge also explains that “at present it is not possible to consider Libya a safe place under the Hamburg Convention, as the Libyan context is characterized by serious and systematic violations of human rights and the Geneva Convention has never been ratified of 1951 on refugees from Libya”.

In short, a strong signal is coming from Crotone. From every point of view.
