Italians did well two out of three in Cagliari: Musetti and Darderi advanced to the quarter-finals, while Sonego stopped.

At Challenger 175 on the red clay of TC Cagliari Musetti struggles with the Argentine Cerundolo. But he keeps the right shots and concentration for the tie breaks: 7-6, 7-6. And tomorrow he finds an opponent who had beaten Carrarino in Estoril, the Portuguese Borges, seventh seed of the Sardinia Open and number 56 ATP.

“It wasn’t an easy match – said Musetti in the press conference – both due to the various suspensions and by virtue of slow conditions which made it difficult to close the points. I played good tennis only in spurts, the key was the my ability to hold my nerve in the two tie-breaks.

At this stage of my season, the important thing for me is to win, without paying too much attention to how I do it.”

Before Musetti, Darderi had also earned the quarterfinals, excellent in the duel against the Argentine Camilo Ugo Carabelli. There was only a game in the first set, which was however dominated from the start by the blue, while after a rain suspension of around 30 minutes the rival was no longer able to keep up with Darderi, promoted 6-3 6-0 .

Nothing to do, however, for Sonego, seeded number 5 in the tournament, defeated by the American Nava 7-6, 6-4.

Among the other big names, the fourth favorite Christopher Eubanks also suffered a stop on his debut. The American came from behind to beat the Colombian Galan 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
