“Contemporanea”, on display the masterpieces of 20th century art by Parma collectors

An exhibition of 115 works by 93 internationally renowned artists, selected from the heritage of the most prestigious private collections in Parma, to tell the story of one hundred years of contemporary Italian and European artistic expression through paintings, sculptures and rare photographs of performances: from 20 April to 21 July the rooms of the Governor’s Palace host “Contemporanea”, curated by Simona Tosini Pizzetti.

On display, among others, Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Marcel Duchamp, Giorgio de Chirico, Otto Dix, Victor Brauner, Man Ray, Giorgio Morandi, Lucio Fontana, Marino Marini, Conrad Marca-Relli, Mario Schifano, Michelangelo Pistoletto and Jannis Kounellis. The works will be exhibited to the public for the first time, in an exceptional exhibition itinerary: the new project will be inserted among the beauties that Parma offers from the Romanesque age to the Renaissance, to the Baroque era, and the experiences it offers provision as a UNESCO Creative City for Gastronomy.

Structured in 22 sections that follow a chronological progression with alternating focuses on different movements and artists, “Contemporanea” – organized and produced by Solares Fondazione delle Arti with the support of Destinazione Turistica Emilia, Apt Servizi Regione Emilia Romagna – spans a century of history of the art of the twentieth century, representing the different trends thanks to a journey built through the works. The exhibition is an exceptional look at the twentieth century and a precious observatory on collecting and the immense cultural heritage that these works represent for the city of Parma and for national culture.
