“I will not be personally present due to commitments previously made at the sit-in per say “No to the closure of the Sacred Heart birth center” scheduled tomorrow, Saturday 20 April, in front of the clinic in Corso Italia and organized byMammacheMamme association. However, at my express request, a delegation of directors and majority councilors will participate, given the importance of the topic discussed and the right demand that underlies the initiative”.
The mayor says so Franz Caruso which continues: “I consider the choices made by the Occhiuto government, in his capacity as ad acta commissioner for Calabrian healthcare, and contained in DCA n.69 of the Calabria Region to be wicked, because they lack any foundation and criteria on the basis of which to make our healthcare system efficient of 14 March last, for the reorganization of the hospital network, for emergency emergencies and for time-dependent networks”.
“In particular, with the suppression of the birth point of the Sacred Heartan accredited structure affiliated with the NHS, in Cosenza the Annunziata Obstetrics department will remain the only active birth center. A department, the latter, already in great difficulty and overworked, also and above all due to the strong and chronic shortage of personnel, which is burdened by waiting lists of many months, especially for benign gynecological pathologies”.
“It is clear, therefore, that an already collapsing situation will worsen and will have serious repercussions on the entire regional healthcare system. I therefore consider the battle of MammacheMamme is important – concludes Franz Caruso – and of all the citizens who have decided to take action to protect the sacrosanct right to health which is, once again, trampled upon by governor Occhiuto for matters and purposes purely of political interest and electoral”.
“So much so he doesn’t even feel the responsibility to give even the slightest explanation to his absurd and inadmissible decisions, erecting between him and the institution he represents, the mayors and citizens, as I often point out, a wall of silence behind which it is easy to take refuge”.
