MODENA. The cold wave arriving from the North did not disappoint expectations. And so, in the space of a few days, the weather in the Apennines went crazy and we went from sunbathing in the garden to shoveling snow.
After reaching 30 degrees, temperatures plummeted to near zero: at the top of the Cimon even -5, at Passo Croce Arcana -4.
THE ADVENTURER WHO LEFT FROM BELGIUM ON A VESPA
But not everyone was up to date with the weather report, especially one gentleman adventurer left Belgium aboard his Vespa. Direction? Roots Pass, reason? A spring gathering together with other two-wheel enthusiasts. The conditions for an epic journey to tell to the grandchildren were all there, it’s just a shame that yesterday fifteen centimeters of snow fell between Frassinoro and Passo delle Radici and there were only snow shovels around with him. But the sudden wave of bad weather didn’t seem to intimidate him and, undaunted, the Belgian centaur still reached his goal.
THE EXPERT
Meteorologist Luca Lombroso of the Unimore observatory had already predicted everything in recent days: «Drastic drop in temperatures, rain, hail and snow in Apennines about 1000 -1200 meters”. Indeed, the expert’s predictions all came true. In addition to the snowfall at high altitude, a light dusting also touched lower locations, from 640 meters in Fanano to 759 meters in Zocca, on a surreal afternoon. In the Zocchese area, at the lower altitudes, even some hailstones between rain and snow.
THE SALT SPREADERS
Provincial vehicles promptly intervened to clean the roads, which are currently all open and passable. Yesterday evening the technicians also salted the roads most at risk of ice. The cold doesn’t seem to want to let go and more days will await us, apparently until April 25th, with temperatures below the seasonal average. Only the memory remains of the heat of last Saturday and Sunday.
