The union meets the students, to cultivate memory. This morning, in the auditorium of the Leonardo high school in via Balestrieri, “Obedience is no longer a virtue” was held, a meeting on Piazza Loggia on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the massacre aimed at high school students, organized by the metalworkers’ union Fim Cisl, the Fim-Cisl Lombardy youth coordination and Cisl school.
About 150 students were present, fourth and fifth grade, from the Golgi institutes of Brescia and Bazoli-Polo of Desenzano and from the Leonardo and Arnaldo high schools. In the first part of the morning the children listened to a historical reconstruction of the context in which the massacre occurred, prepared by the Fim youth coordination, entitled «The strategy of tension and the dark days of the massacres». Then some representatives of the provincial student council explored the topic of the 150 hours for the right to education, created in 1973, through interviews with those who were students at the time.
The union creates culture
A way to reconnect with those distant years and immerse students in the historical context of the massacre, fifty years later. Goal, “Don’t forget and transfer memory and the experience to the new generations – explains the general secretary of Fim Cisl Lombardia Mirko Dolzadelli –. It is essential that the union, the protagonist then and today, is able to create culture, transferring wisdom through that experience, connecting the world of school and work. We found the kids attentive and capable of reflecting on today’s context compared to yesterday’s experience.”
Memory and critical ability, as in the words of Alessandro Mattei, a 16-year-old student from Arici representing the Consulta: «The massacre must remind us that democracy is not something that is acquired once and for all, because it can be taken away with great ease . Its values must be preserved every day and we must remember those who died for these values.”
