TARANTO – The State Police arrested a 49-year-old originally from Fragagnano because he was allegedly responsible for the crimes of receiving stolen goods and illegal possession of weapons and ammunition.
The staff of the Grottaglie police station assisted by the Crime Prevention department of Lecce and the dog team of the Border Police of Brindisi searched a house in the countryside of the municipality of Fragagnano.
Inside a wardrobe in the bedroom the police recovered a semi-automatic pistol with a worn serial number of 6.35 caliber kept in a fabric case, complete with magazine with three cartridges inside and another 16 bullets of the same caliber in a medicine container of those found previously. In a room used as a garage, however, the officers found the presence of an agricultural tractor with a false license plate: from subsequent investigations, it was found stolen in Palagianello in 2020 as well as 17 12 gauge broken lead shotgun cartridges.
Finally, in the square in front of the garage, the carcass of a completely bare Piaggio X9 motorcycle was found: this too was found to have been stolen a few years ago. In addition to some work tools of dubious origin for which the homeowner was unable to provide an explanation regarding their possession.
At the end of the operation and after the discovery of the weapon, ammunition and stolen vehicles, the homeowner was accompanied to the police station offices for all subsequent checks. Having sent the documents to the competent judicial authority, the 49-year-old was arrested and accompanied to the local prison in the Ionian capital.
