“The commission on Al Karama on Tuesday. The work on the new housing autonomy centre, by Councilor Nasso’s own admission, is progressing slowly due to problems with the company. But part of the truth is also linked to the fact that this construction site is not adequately monitored and there is no construction manager because, on paper, it is only a supply of prefabricated buildings. During the inspection carried out by the commission, however, we realized that the individual houses are far from being completed and due to their functionality they seem different from prefabricated ones and therefore require installation times that are decidedly longer than those that had been estimated and very different controls on the execution of the work. In short, one of two things: either it is a supply, but then the company must arrive with the house almost completed and put it on the ground. Or it is a construction site with installation, which necessarily requires a director who controls and directs the company’s work. We therefore express great concern about how these works are being carried out and we believe it is essential for the administration to monitor the interventions more closely and systematically. We would also like to remind you that each additional day of delay corresponds to a time that is even longer for the families forced to live, from July 2022, in situations of degradation and discomfort in the former Rossi Sud warehouse. And it corresponds to additional costs that the Province obviously it will burden the Municipality.” Thus Dario Bellini and Floriana Coletta of Lbc on the sidelines of the commission on Al Karama which was held in recent days.

“The issue of the people hosted at the former Rossi Sud starts from afar – It seems to us that this delay, together with the lack of supervision and the failure to respect all the announced deadlines, represent another burden and another measure compared to what happens in other situations. Perhaps in this situation there is no particular interest in cutting ribbons. We do not believe that this majority has any particular sensitivity on this issue and the facts demonstrate this. Precisely on a day in which the centre-right organized a meeting to talk about landings and migration as if the reception and inclusion of disadvantaged people were not an issue that concerns us, we instead continue as LBC to strongly affirm that people of At Karama they have dignity and rights. We demand projects for them that can guarantee effective integration into society, starting from housing which is a fundamental and priority aspect.”
