Scams perpetrated via smartphones continue. The latest report received by Traniviva concerns an elderly lady from Trani, aged 90, reached this morning by telephone from an unknown number: a self-styled “lawyer Bianchi” speaking who informed the unfortunate woman of a road accident in which he had been involved one of her children and the subsequent request for compensation “otherwise she’ll end up in jail”, the threat on the other end of the phone. A second call followed a few moments later: this time, to appear even more credible, the scammer passed himself off as a Carabiniere.

Fortunately, the elderly lady, in a clear state of agitation, immediately called her granddaughter to check on her relative’s condition. Scams which, as always happens, exploit the sensitivity of the elderly and which therefore cause even more harm: the unfortunate woman in fact risked serious illness due to unscrupulous thugs. Our invitation, as also explained to our microphones in October by the Marshal of the Carabinieri Command of Trani, Colonel Massimiliano Galasso, is not to provide personal information that could lead to identity theft such as mobile phone number, current account or credit card.
