The oceanic posidonia spread in the Florio seafront area where the redevelopment works of the area are underway. The question is: why? What is the point of spreading the seagrass that was previously planted there throughout that area?

Let’s remember that the works were inaugurated last June 25th, complete with symbolic “troweling” by the mayor Massimo Grillo and the regional councilor Alessandro Aricò.

The urban and environmental redevelopment of the filled area, “waterfront 1”, costing one million and 200 thousand euros of regional funding, involves an area of almost 12 thousand m2, which goes from the tourist port to the breakwater area, where a small road was built adjacent to the seafront.

The other project, however, defined as “Waterfront 2” with funding of 2 million and 900 thousand euros from the Ministry of Infrastructure with a share of one million from the Municipality, involves the creation of a park with green areas and other infrastructures with various services.

Let’s remember that posidonia is a plant and not waste. A plant that has the natural function of protecting the coast from erosion is, in fact, able to retain the sand and maintain the beach. It is not clear why it was spread in that area, as if it were stone or concrete.
