The Financiers of the Provincial Command of Messina, during an institutional service aimed at repressing drug trafficking, seized half a kilo of cocaine and 200 ammunition of various calibers, arresting, in flagrante delicto, the courier who carried out transport.

In particular, the Fiamme Gialle Peloritana, as part of the daily economic control action of the territory, subjected to inspection a person of Calabrian origin on board a car, noticed wandering, suspiciously, in the peripheral neighborhood of the city of the Strait .

During the check, the military made use of the precious contribution of the drug-sniffing dog Haidy who, specially trained in this type of service, immediately turned his attention to a children’s stroller placed in the trunk of the vehicle.

After a careful examination of the wheelchair, the Financiers discovered that no. 1 half kilo block of narcotic substance of the cocaine type and no. 200 rounds of ammunition probably intended for prominent members of local organized crime.

On the basis of the investigative findings, which will in any case have to be confirmed in the hearing and in the subsequent levels of judgment and without prejudice to the general principle of not guilty until a final sentence has been reached, the controlled subject was arrested, in flagrante delicto, for the hypotheses of the crime of drug trafficking and illegal possession of ammunition and, subsequently, associated with the Gazzi prison.

The seized drugs, sold at retail, would have brought criminals illicit income for an estimated amount of over 200,000 euros.

The operation carried out demonstrates the constant supervision exercised by the Messina Financial Police in the area to safeguard the laws and combat a phenomenon with serious social impact, such as the trafficking and dealing of narcotic substances, which also constitutes, as now documented by numerous police operations, one of the primary sources of financing for local organized crime.
