Municipal elections in Sassari: clearing in the Democratic Party, the name by tomorrow

(ANSA) – SASSARI, APRIL 19 – The official investiture of the candidate for mayor of Sassari del Campo Largo is scheduled for today. The majority component of the Democratic Party, which includes the two main contenders – the provincial secretary Giuseppe Mascia and the former mayor and former president of the regional council, Gianfranco Ganau – seems to have finally found the square after a long and complex internal discussion, which in some passages did not fail to annoy the other dem souls and allies. Last night, after yet another meeting, the secretary Mascia and the provincial president of the Democratic Party, Maddalena Sechi, issued a statement in which the name of the chosen one is not yet announced, but it is suggested that the internal debate is over and that move towards a solution capable of finding the coalition’s favor.

“The Democratic Party of Sassari is carrying out a broad internal democratic debate to evaluate the best proposal for the city government to be submitted to the coalition that was formed at a regional level and which won the last elections last February”, reads the statement. “I asked the president to convene the party assembly for Saturday at 4pm, from there a unitary and authoritative proposal will emerge, capable of proposing a relaunch of the city and the territory – assures Mascia – in that place the debate and the synthesis as in a party that has its decision-making bodies in its congressional bodies”. The territorial leaders of the Dems then specify that “the different items of attribution of candidacies as already defined do not reflect the seriousness of our discussion, which is not limited to the ruling groups, but goes towards the members, associations and social forces”. Finally, the Democrats ask for “due respect for this path, after which we will meet again with the coalition that will be able to evaluate and legitimize the proposal for the city”. Almost white smoke, in short, but from the headquarters in via Mazzini the mouths will remain sealed for a few more hours.
