ENNA – The Catania railway police arrested 3 people, aged between approximately 30 and 60, for the theft of 750 kilos of copper from railway companies near the province of Enna. The policemen had been investigating for some time, together with their colleagues from the Caltanissetta Polfer, a series of thefts of copper cables and other ferrous material used by the railways, which occurred on the Libertina-Sparagogna section of the Fiumetorto-Bicocca railway line, currently stopped for doubling of the tracks. During the investigations, also conducted with the filming of the camera traps installed by Fs Security, an alert was detected last night which arrived at the Caltanissetta Polfer which alerted the Catania police, who intervened in the Libertinia area, blocking them when they were already aboard the van and were taking provincial road 192.

In the vehicle, in addition to the approximately 750 kg of copper stolen from the tracks and then returned to the railways, which would have yielded a loot of approximately 165 thousand euros, there were tools used to cut cables and work clothes similar to those used by RFI technicians. The three, who already had criminal records, were arrested and taken to the Enna district house to await immediate trial. One of them, the driver of the vehicle, will also have to answer for driving without a license and failure to comply with authority measures, for not having complied with the compulsory warning issued by the police commissioner of Enna a few months ago following a report from the Caltanissetta railway police.
