Lamezia, Mongiardo: “The increase in enrollments at the Manzoni-Augruso comprehensive institute has been consolidated”

Lamezia Terme – Successful enrollment, for the second consecutive year, at the Manzoni-Augruso comprehensive institute in Lamezia Terme, directed by principal Antonella Mongiardo. The number of students enrolled, a total of 140 (with new requests for enrollments and transfers from other schools) consolidates a reversal of trend compared to recent years, which already began last school year, when there was a 10% increase in the school population. IC Manzoni-Augruso, merged with IC Gatti from next year to form a single, highly complex mega school (first level), is the only school in Lamezia in the first cycle to have not recorded any staff reductions and no supernumerary teachers all school levels: childhood, primary and secondary. A stability that has aroused rejoicing in the school community, “the fruit – says principal Mongiardo – of teamwork and a general enthusiasm fueled daily by comparison and sharing of values and intentions, also in terms of union and collegial participation”.

“Great satisfaction, in particular – it is still said – for the new musical path, which came into force this school year, in implementation of ministerial decree 176/2022, which goes from 27 to 34 new members, beyond the maximum limit foreseen, with the establishment of four subgroups, each corresponding to a different instrumental specialty, including guitar, violin, oboe and piano. To access the musical courses, the students took an aptitude orientation test, prepared by the school, the results of which were published by the registration deadline. The musical path is the flagship of Manzoni-Augruso, which this year signed a memorandum of understanding with the musical conservatory of Nocera Terinese, ‘Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, part of the system of Italian higher artistic and musical education , which enriches the school’s educational offering thanks to musical workshops and the collaboration of nationally and internationally renowned artists. Satisfaction with the results of the registrations was expressed by the Headmaster, Antonella Mongiardo, who focused everything on a management policy focused on: safety, innovation, inclusion and legality. In addition to the innovation of the learning environments, designed thanks to the PON Infanzia and the PNRR School 4.0 projects, in an advanced stage of implementation, the current management has stood out, in particular, for the health and safety management policy in school, in particular with respect to the thorny issue of life-saving drugs to be administered during school hours, in implementation of the Guidelines issued on 25 November 2005 by the Ministry of Education, University and Research in agreement with the Ministry of Health”.

“Since last year – continues the note – the manager Mongiardo has also carried out, through the school website, an information and awareness campaign on the importance of respecting the rules and safety standards in the workplace. The design of new learning environments at IC Manzoni-Augruso has also taken off, with the purchase of furniture and digital equipment as part of the PNRR “School 4.0: innovative schools, wiring, new learning environments and laboratories”, Action 1 – Next generation classrooms” and from next week the cinema, theater and disciplinary consolidation laboratory courses foreseen by the PNRR project relating to “Territorial gaps” will start. The first and second cycle school communities are called upon to design physical and digital learning environments, characterized by the renewal of spaces, furnishings and equipment. In the detailed technical specifications published on the Manzoni website, the resources that the school in via Ferlaino will be equipped with from next September have been explained, such as modular and flexible furnishings, connection devices and for the use of content, equipment for immersive classrooms and laboratories, equipment to integrate the physical classroom and virtual environment/platform and encourage new dimensions of hybrid learning, digital resources, software for the development of disciplinary and interdisciplinary content. As part of the fight against school dropout, the activities envisaged by the “On board” project have also been launched in recent days and the organization of the disciplinary strengthening modules in Italian, mathematics, English and L2 foreseen by the South Agenda project. The success of the school in via Ferlaino was also determined by the attention to legality, with participation in competitions and projects carried out in collaboration with the State Police, the valorisation of creativity and talents, with educational experiments and initiatives interdisciplinary ranging from mathematics, to art, to the environment, to journalism, which have even seen the production of original products such as the Manzoni-Augruso boys’ news program, a television format and learning service project created in collaboration with the television channel EsseTV. Extracurricular activities are also highly appreciated by families, such as musical competitions and educational trips to theatres, which involve pupils of all levels, starting from nursery school”.

“The educational trip to Campania met with great enthusiasm among the students – it is finally said – which involved the third-year middle schoolers in an interesting and evocative itinerary to discover some of the most beautiful naturalistic, historical and scientific sites in Naples, such as the Palazzo Royal Palace of Naples, the archaeological museum, the Città della Scienza Planetarium, the Royal Palace of Caserta. The next guided tours, scheduled from the end of April and intended for primary school classes and first and second secondary school classes, will have as their destinations Monteporo, Santa Severina, Crotone, Reggio Calabria and Padula and Pertosa, where the students will visit the famous Caves , places of incomparable natural beauty, one of the major environmental and cultural attractors of the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park, which has been recognized as a UNESCO Geopark since 2010″.
