The film club “Sguardi dal futuro” will start on April 24th, born from the collaboration between the Department of Cultural Heritage and Start Cinema. The screenings will be held at Jolly, at 6pm.

Views from the future is the title of the event which on 24 April will kick off the first film club created by the Department of Cultural Heritage in collaboration with the Ravenna cooperative Start Cinema and with the contribution of the Flaminia Foundation.

The screenings, in the original language with Italian subtitles, will be introduced by the commentary of a Cultural Heritage teacher (Raffaella Biscioni, Alessandro Iannucci, Alberto Malfitano, Anna Pellegrino, Matteo Zaccarini) and will be held at Jolly cinema, at 6pm. Entrance will be free while seats last and upon reservation (simply send an email to [email protected] and wait for confirmation).

This is the program of the film club which, as teachers Raffaella Biscioni and Alessandro Iannucci explain, is aimed at both students and citizens “in an attempt to encourage and consolidate mutual knowledge between members of the Ravenna university community and the city”.

THE PROGRAM

The event will open on Wednesday 24 April The Great Dictatorby Charlie Chaplin (USA, 1940, 2h05′)
The film will be introduced by Prof. Raffaella Biscioni

Conceived a year before the outbreak of the Second World War and with clear references to Nazi Germany, the film tells of the exchange of identity between a humble Jewish barber and a bloodthirsty dictator. Due to a long hospital stay, the protagonist remains unaware of the rise to power of the tyrant Adenoid Hynkel. However, having returned to his neighborhood of origin, the barber will begin to rebel in his own way against the regime.

Second appointment on Wednesday 15 May with a very current classic: The Red Desert, by Michelangelo Antonioni (Italy, 1964, 1h57′). The teachers Alessandro Iannucci and Raffaella Biscioni will introduce the screening

Dissatisfied with her marriage, Giuliana, wife of a rich industrialist, tries to escape from her life through an extramarital affair. The film is set in Ravenna and represents a moment of reflection on Antonioni’s cinematic language and the evolution of the urban landscape.

Thursday 30 May will be the turn of Dunkirk, by Christopher Nolan (USA, 2017, 1h46′). The teachers Alberto Malfitano and Anna Pellegrino will introduce the film

After the Nazi occupation of France, the English army remains trapped on the beaches of Dunkirk. The story shows attempts to evacuate British troops. Despite the large budget worthy of a blockbuster, the film upsets Hollywood rules, showing an event that did not represent a war victory for the allies and which did not involve the United States.

Finally, the review will close on Wednesday 5 June with The Warriors of the Night, by Walter Hill (USA, 1979, 1h33′). Prof. will introduce the screening. Matteo Zaccarini.

During a gathering of major New York gangs, the Warriors are falsely accused of killing the leader of a rival gang. Thus in a single night they find themselves having to escape the ambushes of enemy clans and the police. Engaged in multiple battles, the Warriors will have to reach Coney Island to finally save themselves and redeem their name.
