VENICE – European elections, On Wednesday 1 May, the lists of the Brothers of Italy and the Bonino-Renzi pro-Europeans for the North-East constituency which includes Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Trentino Alti Adige and Emilia Romagna were also presented at the Court of Appeal in Venice.
For Brothers of Italy the head of the list is “Giorgia”, the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. At number two is the Vicenza native Sergio Berlato, which has recently entertained the theories of no-everything, from anti-vaxes on down. The fact of having placed him in second place responds to the national decision taken by the party: “Giorgia” opens and then the outgoing MEPs follow. Which in the Northeast are only one, namely Berlato. Following, in alphabetical order, the other 13 candidates: Alessia Ambrosi from Verona, Antonella Argenti from Padua, Silvia Bolla from Venice, Stefano Cavedagna from Bologna, the mayor of Pordenone Alessandro Ciriani, the regional councilor of Vicenza Elena Donazzan, the Emilian Guglielmo Garagnani, the mayor of Porto Viro and secretary of FdI of Polesine Valeria Mantovan, the Veronese deputy Maddalena Morgante, the Gorizia native Anna Olivetti, the regional councilor and secretary of FdI of Venice province Lucas Pavanetto, the Veronese regional councilor Daniele Polato , Piergiacomo Sibiano from Romagna. Out of a list of 15 candidates, 8 women and 7 men.
And let’s get to the list United States of Europe which brings together 6 symbols, from Matteo Renzi’s Italia Viva to the PSI to Emma Bonino’s +Europa up to the Radicals, Lib-Dem and Italia C’è. Here in the North-East Matteo Renzi is not a candidate, the frontrunner is the Scot Graham Robert Watson (former British MEP, who became an Italian citizen thanks to a Florentine wife he met in the circles of young European liberals), among the Venetians the former Veronese regional councilor Davide Bendinelli , Gabriella Chiellino from Mestre, Giorgio Pasetto from Verona, the Venetian socialist Luigi Giordani, Aurora Pezzuto from Treviso.
