Since Tuesday, most of the parents of the children at Sant’Anna primary school have been letting their children go out during canteen hours, because with the arrival of the new school year the costs of the service will increase.

Out of approximately 120 children enrolled in the compulsory service (unless a proof is presented), around 90 leave the institute to go home, or to have lunch together in the park in via Comerio.

“With the delegations we managed to organize ourselves and get the children out”, explain some parents. In fact, children, unless authorized with proof, should join the canteen service as the school in via Comerio is 40 hours away.

From September parents will have to pay 6.30 euros per day per child, while to date the costs are “5.80 euros for the first child and the second at 50%”. Doing a quick calculation, a family with two children would go from paying 43.50 euros a week to 63 euros, almost 80 euros more per month, calculating over four weeks. Furthermore, there are also complaints about the quality of the food, described as “overcooked and often cold”.

Parents are keen to underline that meals “are cancelled, so as not to waste food”.

Next Tuesday there will be a meeting with the municipal administration for “explanations, but we would like to find an agreement to accommodate us”. Being able to bring food from home, for example.

And in the meantime the protest is spreading: tomorrow, in fact, early exits are also expected in other city schools.
