On May 1st, the Federcaccia Municipal Section of Lecce also took part together with members and friends in the 3rd edition of Paladini del Territorio promoted by Fondazione UNA – Uomo Natura Ambiente and in the 10th edition of “Ambiente Bene Comune” of the Sector Territorial Hunting Authority of the Province of Lecce.
Both initiatives consisted of identifying a forest or natural environment within the territory of the province of Lecce which is degraded and which, although particularly interesting from an environmental point of view, already showed the first signs of alteration.
Federcaccia Comunale Lecce has identified the “Li Punzi” area as a suitable site for reclamation, located in the San Cataldo marina in the Municipality of Lecce, in the SIC area (site of community importance) and classified as a priority habitat “Temporary Mediterranean ponds”.
The Territorial Paladins of the Municipal Section of Lecce collected approximately five quintals of waste in this area, including glass, plastic and metals which were subsequently collected by the local waste collection company Monteco Spa of Lecce.
Furthermore, again in the same area, this year five artificial nests were installed in the woods adjacent to the marshy area, provided by the Lecce ATC, to encourage resting and welcoming wildlife.
At the end of the reclamation operations, all the participants met in the refreshment area used at the “Puzzovio Piante” nursery in San Cataldo di Lecce and together they celebrated the success of the event with a nice first course of pasta with sauce of wild boar, an excellent grilled meat, a good glass of Salento wine and a delicious “pasticciotto leccese”.

These are the hunters, champions of the territory and sentinels of biodiversity and nature.
