Newborn kittens closed in a bag: saved

Rimini, 18 April 2024 – Among closed kittens inside a bag and abandoned on the streetas if they were waste that could be disposed of with the least possible use of energy (video). Yet gods came from inside the bag meows, feeblebut clear enough to be heard by the woman who has saved the lives of three newborn kittens to whom fate and the timely professionalism of the Rimini kennel operators gave them a second opportunity.

One of the kittens rescued in Rimini

The events took place on Friday 13 April in the northern area of Rimini, when a passerby walking with her dog in a field found a plastic bag closed with double knot containing three abandoned newborn cats. Opening the package she saw the three little animals with the umbilical cord still soft, a sign of their very tender age. They probably hadn’t yet one day old and, if they had remained closed inside that bag for a little longer, they would have risked not making it, also due to the difficulty in breathing. The woman therefore immediately contacted the animal welfare office of the ‘Stefano Cerni’ kennel in Rimini which started the rescue operation for the small felines, who were then entrusted to her voluntary who is looking after them at his home. Now they are better and for them, two ‘blacks’ and one with slightly spotted fur, the worst seems to be over.

“We had to deal with one of the worst types of phone calls we can receive – is the statement from the team of the municipal kennel, managed by the Cento Fiori cooperative -. Unfortunately, abandoning puppies immediately after birth is the most common: kittens or dogs left to their fate, thrown into plastic bags or bins as if they were organic waste that needed to be disposed of. I am illegal and heinous acts that make the heart cry and reflect a lack of responsibility. Unfortunately, given the timing, it marks a sadly significant moment in the beginning of the abandonment season, with the summer which, although not in an extreme way in our territory, always establishes a increase in abandonment phenomena. We therefore condemn this gesture and renew our request to all citizens for collaboration to prevent and report similar behavior. The number to contact is the animal welfare office (3476988629). We also remember the importance of the sterilization option, a proactive measure to also limit such cases, guaranteeing a better and safer future for the four-legged friends of our community”.
