In the meeting this morning, Thursday 18 April, the Siena City Council approved the outline of the agreement for the relocation of the local public transport bus stops and the creation of an emergency lane in Viale Mario Bracci, near the Santa Maria polyclinic at Scotte.
The Sienese university hospital company, to protect the safety of people and operators, as well as to guarantee safe access to the emergency lane of the emergency room, has requested to evaluate the feasibility of a project for the permanent relocation of the emergency stops buses to be built in viale Mario Bracci, near the entrance to the Santa Maria alle Scotte hospital.
The urban and intermunicipal bus stops, in fact, are currently located on the same side of the preferential access lane to the emergency room of the Siena polyclinic and users who get off public transport necessarily find themselves having to cross the reserved emergency preferential lane to ambulances and other vehicles that use the lane to access the emergency room.
The need therefore emerged to quickly carry out, compatibly with the technical times for project approval and execution of the works, the definitive move of the bus stops to the opposite side of the road from the current one, and at the same time to expand and extend them onto Viale Bracci the current emergency lane leading to the emergency room.
The planning and management of the works are the responsibility of the Municipality of Siena, while the physical movement of the electronic poles is the responsibility of Autolinee Toscane Spa. The municipal administration has developed the technical and economic feasibility project, for a total investment estimated at approximately 280 thousand euros.
The Siena University Hospital and the Province of Siena will provide a financial contribution of 25 percent each for the realization of the project, with the Municipality of Siena covering the remaining 50 percent.
