Ilaria Salis he would have said no to the Democratic Party but would have agreed to run in the next elections European elections with Adv. This is the exclusive relaunched this morning by The paper, which takes for granted the inclusion of the teacher, now detained in Hungary, as the leader of the list in the north west. In absolute silence, the bureaucratic procedures were started in the previous days and today they should be completed: the diplomatic corps will authenticate the signature for the acceptance of the candidacy. The candidacy is nothing more than an attempt to circumvent Hungarian law, in order to obtain parliamentary immunity for Salis in the event of his election to escape from prison in Budapest.
The teacher is accused of having participated in an armed attack in Budapest against some far-right exponents, endangering their lives. When she was stopped by the police, Salis had a truncheon with her which, according to the defense, was only for personal defense, and she also had a business card from a lawyer, the same one who defends the “hammer gang”. That Salis’s candidacy was deliberately kept under wraps to avoid uproar and setbacks is demonstrated by the fact that just yesterday Nicola Fratoiannisecretary of the Italian Left, part of Avs, categorically denied that there were maneuvers to bring her to Brussels.
“I read in Il Foglio about a ‘Fratoianni Plan’ for the candidacy of Ilaria Salis on the lists of the Alleanza Verdi Sinistra. There is no Fratoianni plan. I would prevent a person in the conditions in which Ilaria Salis finds herself from being unleashed on a person surreal media debate which certainly doesn’t help her. Avs announces its candidacies in transparent way without the need to build improbables secret plans“, we read in the note issued yesterday. Yet, the “improbable secret plans” evidently existed and Avs did not act as transparently as Fratoianni likes to think. “I deny it“, is Bonelli’s comment.
A few hours later, however, together with Fratoianni he confirmed the candidacy: “Greens and Left Alliance in agreement with Roberto Salis has decided to nominate his daughter Ilaria, detained in Hungary, in conditions that seriously violate people’s rights, on its lists in the next European elections“. They then added: “The idea is that a great deal can be generated around Ilaria Salis’ candidacy generous battle so that the European Union defends the principles of the Rule of Law and reaffirms the inviolability of fundamental human rights throughout its territory and in each of the member states“.

First of all, Avs will have to overcome it barrier at 4%not an easy task given that in the last elections the group stopped at 3.6% and the Soumahoro case had not yet broken out.
Perhaps, in the Avs area they hope to “use” the Salis affair to recover some votes but if they were not able to overcome the barrier they would only have caused further damage to the teacher, after having brought his proceedings into politics.
