Cooperative exploited employees, precautionary measure issued

According to the accusation, he paid his employees only 3.50 euros an hour, violating the national collective labor agreement, and deprived them of pay on rest days and holidays.

For this reason, the Carabinieri of the Labor Inspectorate Unit of Reggio Calabria have carried out an obligation to present themselves to the judicial police issued by the investigating judge, at the request of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, for the legal representative of a cooperative company accredited by the Municipality also for home care .

The judge also ordered the seizure of liquidity and real estate for an amount of approximately 230 thousand euros from the four members of the cooperative.

The accusation against the suspects is exploitation, extortion and threats against the workers responsible for caring for the elderly hosted in a care facility.

The Carabinieri investigation started from complaints presented by some workers, tired of the working conditions to which they were subjected by the cooperative’s members.

According to the accusation, the suspects took advantage of the state of need of the cooperative’s employees, who were thus forced to receive a minimum wage.
