The inconveniences for Apulian commuters are over. From the afternoon of tomorrow 19 April, traffic on the Adriatica line will gradually return to normal. The Italian railway network has completed the infrastructural and technological upgrading works between San Vito Lanciano and San Severo, on the Pescara-Foggia line, which began on 8 April. After the difficulties previously caused by the landslide (on the line to Rome), citizens traveling by train can finally breathe a sigh of relief.

In the San Giovanni tunnel (over 9 kilometers long), in Abruzzo, a new water drain system was created for the drainage of rainwater which allows the reliability of the line to be increased. On the route between Ripalta and Lesina, in Puglia, works were carried out for the construction of hydraulic works preparatory to the doubling of the section. At the same time, the interventions to replace the switches and the preparatory works for the construction of the future computerized central apparatus were completed in the Foggia station.

In the Campomarino station, in Molise, the works will then allow the crossing track to be extended to 750 meters to facilitate the development of freight traffic on the Adriatic route. In the same period, in Abruzzo, between Fossacesia and Vasto San Salvo, technological modernization interventions were carried out in the Diavolo, San Donato, Vasto and Sinello tunnels, in view of the construction of the ACCM (multi-station computerized central apparatus) and other strengthening interventions and maintenance between Falconara and Ancona, Varano and Loreto, as well as in the stations of Cattolica, Giulianova, Ortona and Foggia.

Over 250 people participated in the work, carried out by RFI technicians and contracting companies. The overall economic investment was approximately 260 million euros, of which 100 million were financed with Pnrr funds.

For those leaving from Milan, Turin, Venice and Bologna towards Puglia and from Lecce and Bari for the same cities from midday, you can check the status of your train on the trenitalia.com website.
