four-storey building a few steps from the Mole evacuated. The testimony of the witnesses

A fire shook the center of Turin, a few steps from the Mole Antonelliana. Around lunchtime the flames broke out in the attic of a four-storey building in via Vanchiglia 18, at the intersection with via Artisti. The fire engulfed the roof of the building, surrounded by scaffolding, on which some workers were at work renovations.

The firefighters intervened on site, working to extinguish the flames which in the meantime had spread to the roof of the building. The entire building was evacuated and no injuries were reported. To allow for safety interventions, the local police closed Via Vanchiglia to traffic.

All residents at numbers 16 and 18 of via Vanchiglia were evacuated. It was at the crossroads with Corso San Maurizio a bus was made available to accommodate the tenants.

«I have some friends who live nearby, they will host me for the night. The important thing is that no one got hurt”, says one of the residents forced to leave their home. «I was in the office, I ran away to help my mother who lives at number 16. She is eighty-eight years old, I hope she can return home as soon as possible”, explains another tenant. Meanwhile, the firefighters continue their operations: they continue to throw water on the attics and the fire is now being put out.
