“When imagining a major urban planning intervention in the city, one cannot only consider the aspects that qualify the purposes of the work itself but also the entire urban, social and economic context in which the intervention is inserted and with which it must dialogue. The necessary checks on mobility and traffic cannot ignore political decisions relating to the works”.
The agenda presented by the minority group of the Cuneo dei Beni Comuni municipal council reports this warning. In the text, the mayor and council are asked to review tools such as PUMS and PGTU for sustainable mobility and the organization of urban traffic before making irreversible decisions regarding some major construction interventions that will affect the city in the near future.
The suggestions of the Common Goods
Specifically, the document mentions the interventions of the creation of the “Tomasini Campus” in the church of San Tomaso, of the new single hospital of Cuneo in the Confreria hamlet and the project (yet to be presented) relating to the new structure of the churchyard of Piazza Europa.
As regards the campus, the Common Goods ask the mayor and council to think about the type of parking areas and the mobility of the area, considering how circulation cannot be further increased and a prospect of partial pedestrianization must instead be initiated; for the new hospital, attention is focused on the critical issues and the possible, serious consequences in identifying the road accesses to the structure. Finally, on Piazza Europa, the councilors underline how it is necessary to conserve the historic trees and the continuity between the churchyard and porticoes, and to rethink the road system with a view to strengthening the public transport service.
The agenda will be presented and debated during the city council meeting scheduled for the end of the month.
