Legambiente against mayor Felice: “No to guns for municipal police officers”
Descriptive text here

The Legambiente club of Campobasso is against the provision of guns to the municipal police “consistently – it highlights in a note – with the position already expressed in 2020, together with other third sector and civil society bodies, when a similar provision was issued in scope of the safe schools programme”.

The resolution on that occasion envisaged the purchase of 15 guns, ammunition and holsters for 14,500 euros “in order to repress drug dealing in front of schools, but the mobilization of civil society, associations and political forces such as the Democratic Party and the Left for Campobasso it was strong, and the provision was withdrawn”. Now with a decree from the mayor which for Legambiente has “suspicious timing”, “a real backlash at the end of the mandate which leaves no room for democratic confrontation, the 5star administration acquires and assigns 30 pistols and 900 ammunition to the Municipal Police officers, weapons which will be kept in the homes of the employees since, we read, the Municipal Police does not have a suitable armoury”.

“We believe the recently issued union decree is unjustified and disproportionate – declare the association – It is not with weapons that security is guaranteed, in a context such as that of the capital city characterized by a low crime rate, but with prevention and to combat hardship, aimed at strengthening the human and social capital of the city. We therefore ask again for the revocation of the provision and relaunch the appeal for the mobilization of civil society”.
