WineNews bids farewell to Vinitaly 2024, with some souvenir photos of the many “ad personam” meetings we held to talk about the world of Italian wine “day by day” in the most important international event that brought together the protagonists of the sector in Verona. For those who missed the “best of” just read it again, and also in the next few days, given the enormous amount of “stored” work, we will continue to tell the market trends, the economic scenarios, the news in the glass but also many stories and curiosity, which animated the fairincluding conferences, tastings and events within the event, thanks to the over 4,000 entities present, including small and large wineries, historic and emerging territories. Meanwhile, here are our “Postcards from Vinitaly”, with many friends, many wine protagonists, “legend men” and outsiders, in a roundup of the “2024” characters from the world of wine, agri-food, catering, hospitality and of “other worlds”, which we have listened to and with which we have compared.
Starting from one of the legends of Italian wine, who made the wines of the Marche known throughout the world with the historic Villa Bucci company, Ampelio Bucciwith “DoctorWine” Daniele Cernilli and one of the “princes” of Italian sommellerie as Antonello Maietta, long-time leader of the AIS-Italian Sommelier Association. So, one of the most important Italian entrepreneurs, from fashion to wine, like Sandro Veronesi“Mr Calzedonia”, with his son Federico Veronesi, owner with Signorvino’s family, and Luca Pizzighellageneral manager of the “Grande Cantina Italiana”, together with Roberta Corrà, head of the Italian Wine Group – Giv. But, once again, WineNews also met the “king” of made in Italy jeans and VIP-vigneron Renzo Rosso, which is collecting a “parade” of more and more wineries in the most important wine territories in Italy. And then, Giannola Nonino, “Our Lady of grappa” as the great writer and journalist Gianni Brera (and also the “master” Luigi Veronelli) called her. Just like the “triumvirate” of Bolgheri, a true “unicum” in the world of Italian wine, with Albiera Antinoripresident of the Bolgheri Doc Consortium and of Marchesi Antinori, with the vice-presidents Priscilla Incisa della Rocchettaat the helm of Tenuta San Guido, e Cinzia Merli, owner and soul of Le Macchiole. And, again, the professor Attilio Science“nomen omen” of wine, among the greatest viticulture experts in the world, and Professor Luigi Moiopresident of the Oiv-International Organization of Vine and Wine, and producer with Quintodecimo, with the CEO Veronafiere Maurizio Danese. From Riccardo Cotarella, president of Assoenologi and co-president of Union Internationale des Oenologues, to the flying-winemaker, among the most “quoted” and well-known, Alberto Antonini. From Gigi Brozzonione of the historic and most authoritative journalists of the Permanent Seminar Luigi Veronelli and his Guide, ad Edoardo Raspellione of the masters of Italian food and wine criticism, from Giancarlo Gariglioat the helm of Slow Wine by Slow Food, to the Rai anchorman Federico Quaranta. From the heart of Umbria, here, together with WineNews, the chef Gianfranco Vissanione of the few great masters of Italian cuisine, but also the legendary Giorgionethe most loved chef on TV, with the historic show “Giorgione – Orto e Cucina” on the Gambero Rosso Channel.
Last but least, Angelo Gajathe “wine craftsman” par excellence who, for once we didn’t meet him, but we saw him, for the third time – the first, in 1985, first ever among Italian producers, ed. – on the cover of “Wine Spectator” (with the April 2024 issue), which, as is now tradition, the authoritative US magazine dedicates to Italian wine during the days of Vinitaly.
“See you soon”, at Vinitaly 2025, in Verona, from 6 to 9 April…
