Bologna, 18 April 2024 – When you are alone and elderly and we come robbed of all the jewels – memories of a lifetime – it is not easy to tell the details of fraud suffered: shame, humiliation and sorrow mix together in a lump in the throat that goes neither up nor down. But the 82 year old lady who reported to the police that she had been robbed yesterday he met two ‘angels’, so empathetic and available to understand that the elderly victim of the scam needed support, more than a report to fill out. And so the two agents worked hard to cheer up the lady, who in one burst of tears and the other, in addition to the details of the scam, immediately also told about his own life of solitude, difficult to face every day, especially at meal times. No sooner said than done: the officers – from the Santa Viola police station – accompanied her to the kitchen and they started preparing lunch together with her. Eventually they have ate all three togetherlike a family, a nice plate of pasta, and the lady herself asked for a photo together with her angels in uniform.
The explosive jewelry scam
But what had happened to the 82-year-old? Practically he opened the door to a manwhich boasted of being a technician sent by the administrator of condominium, with the task of verify the nature of the gold present in the house, as it could contain explosive material, dangerous for women’s health. The old woman believed in the man’s good faith and, on the latter’s indication, she put all the gold in her possession (for a value approximately 40,000 euros) in a bag of plastic and then placing it on the bedroom wardrobe (where presumably the lady couldn’t reach). The fake technician would be passed the following day to control the gold. Actually the scammer he managed to distract the woman with several apologies and, before leaving, with a clever move he pocketed the bagthen running away.
The poor lady had no choice but to call the police, and luckily she met two officers who managed to make her feel less alone.
