Thirty-one domestic workers (26 women and 5 men), residing in the middle and upper lakewho have not submitted tax returns for the years 2017 to 2022, failing to subject income to tax for a total amount of approximately 2 million euros: this is the balance sheet of the investigation by the financiers of the Menaggio Company made known in recent days.
The workers in question, mainly of Romanian and Ukrainian nationality (residents between the municipalities of Tremezzina and Gravedona ed Uniti), in some cases have received significant salaries, carrying out their tasks in prestigious properties. The checks, started by cross-referencing the data held by the Corps with those of the INPS, highlighted that the workers, regularly employed and with social security contributions correctly paid by the employers, have not fulfilled the obligation to submit the tax returndespite exceeding the exemption thresholds provided for by the legislation (8,000 euros until 2021, 8,176 euros from 2022).
«In this regard, it should be noted that in the domestic work relationship the employer is required to pay social security contributions but is not a tax substitute and therefore has no obligation to withhold the Irpef, nor the regional and municipal surcharges» , explain the financiers. «Therefore, in general, it is the domestic worker who, upon exceeding the aforementioned thresholds, must submit the tax return and pay the taxes due. The operation of the Guardia di Finanza of Como testifies to the constant commitment of the Corps in the fight against tax evasion and in protecting the interests of the community. The control activity will continue with the aim of identifying further irregular positions and ensuring compliance with the solidarity obligation and the principle of ability to pay provided, ultimately, by the constitutional charter.”
