BES, GET UP AND DOWN BASILICATA

Fair and sustainable well-being: between positions in the medium-low range and those in the medium-high range, almost parity. Among the critical issues is illegal construction: over 50 unauthorized constructions for every 100 authorized

For Basilicata, from the report on “Equitable and sustainable well-being” drawn up by the national statistics institute Istat, mostly painful notes. The annual report offers a multidimensional portrait of Italy dated December 31st. To analyze territorial inequalities, 132 indicators for a total of 12 thematic areas. Of these, for Basilicata, 31.8% place the region in the low range, 24.2% in the medium-low range, 18.2% in the medium range, 15.9% in the medium-high range and 9 .8% at the high end. The “greens”, the good scores obtained by Basilicata, almost all in the safety category.

HEALTH

For the Health “domain”, comparing the distance of each region from the national value for each indicator of the thematic area, a notable heterogeneity in the distributions is observed. The autonomous provinces of Trento and Bolzano rank among the most virtuous, with 5 indicators out of 15 taking on the maximum values of well-being, while Campania and Basilicata reach the minimum values more often than other areas of the country (respectively in 5 and in 4 out of 15 indicators). Among the indicators with greater territorial variability compared to the national average are life expectancy in good health at birth (with the best value compared to the national average in the autonomous province of Bolzano and the most critical value in Basilicata), infant mortality (with the worst level in Calabria and the best in Valle d’Aosta) and mortality from road accidents (for which the minimum value compared to the national average is observed in Abruzzo and the highest in Basilicata). For the indicator on sedentary lifestyle, Basilicata records a value almost 60% higher than the Italian average (53.7% vs the Italian average of 34.2%), while the minimum value is found in the autonomous province of Bolzano, where only about 15% of people aged 14 and over do not practice sports or physical activity. The highest proportion of people who consume adequate quantities of fruit and vegetables daily is observed in Piedmont (+54% compared to the Italian average) and the lowest in Basilicata (-57% from the average). Basilicata, Calabria, Campania and Puglia are the regions with high values of hospital emigration and low attraction, in addition to Sicily and Sardinia. Hospital emigrations, it has been explained, are a phenomenon that characterizes above all the smaller regions of the South: Molise has the highest number of hospital admissions outside the region (30.4% of discharges), followed by Basilicata (28.4%). %).

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Between 2022 and 2023, the number of children attending educational services for children will increase again. Beyond these two regions, a particularly marked increase in the share of children enrolled in nursery school was recorded in 2023 for the Marche, Emilia-Romagna, Abruzzo, Basilicata, Lombardy and Calabria. In 2023, 30.6% of young people aged 25-34 have a tertiary qualification (they were 29.2% in 2022). In 2023, in the North-West the share returns to 2019 levels, while it grows in the Center and the South. The first indicator reaches its maximum in Emilia-Romagna, Piedmont and Lazio, with values that in 2021 exceed the Italian average by more than 40% (respectively 2.09%, 2.04% and 1.99% of the regional GDP ) and also largely surpass the rest of the Central-Northern regions; the same indicator is at minimum levels in Basilicata and Calabria, where it is approximately two thirds lower than the Italian average (0.54% and 0.58% of GDP). In terms of the incidence of total spending on Research and Development on GDP, good performances are recorded in Emilia-Romagna (2.09%), Piedmont (2.04%) and Lazio (1.99%). Two important Northern regions such as Lombardy (1.25%) and Veneto (1.24%), historically leaders in Research and Development, are positioned below the national average in 2021. The lowest values are found in Valle d’Aosta (0.58%), Calabria (0.58%) and Basilicata (0.54%). Research intensity of companies: Emilia-Romagna and Piedmont are in the lead, followed by Lombardy.
