04/17/2024 – A 22-year-old young man, originally from Naples and with a history of drug dealing, was arrested in Rimini after being accused of carrying out a scam against an 85-year-old elderly man resident in Pesaro. The scam made use of the classic ruse of a fake road accident.

The scammer called the victim by telephone pretending to be a police officer. During the phone call, the elderly person was informed that a family member, typically a child, had caused an accident and that it was necessary to pay bail to avoid legal consequences. Under this false premise, the elderly man was convinced to hand over 250 euros and some gold jewellery.

The 22-year-old, immediately after collecting the money and valuables, left Pesaro using a taxi to head towards Rimini, but his escape was interrupted by the Traffic Police, alerted by the Pesaro Flying Squad.

Arrested, the young man declared in court that he had been hired by two individuals in Naples to collect an envelope from the elderly man’s house. The latter had organized his trip to Pesaro and return to Naples, promising him compensation of 20,000 euros for the work done.
