Cosenza MicroMondi, the new urban regeneration project in the historic center

COSENZA It kicks off in the historic center of Cosenza the new urban regeneration project led by The Cuttlefish Revolutionthe hyper-collective of creative professionals and nomads which, starting from Belmonte Calabro (CS), has established itself as one of the most relevant training experiments on a national and international scale, working on the reconfiguration of the so-called “marginal areas” in places of the possibleboth at a global level and within local territorial systems. Friday 19 April at 6.30pm at the SeppieLab San Gaetano, in Piazza Tommaso Ortale 7, in the heart of the historic center of Cosenza, it will be officially presented COSMO – Cosenza MicroMondithe new project supported and promoted from the Urban Agenda program of the Municipality of Cosenzawhich aims to regenerate and create value around the historic center neighborhoodsthanks to activities that will act in a two-way manner: on the one hand, attracting a new community towards the city of Cosenza, for valuable tourism that gives space to the connection with the territory, on the other the local community to which new stimuli and possibilities for economic development can be given. The following will intervene: Franz Caruso (Mayor of the Municipality of Cosenza), Francesco Alimena (city councilor delegated to the historic centre), Rita Elvira Adamo (COSMO coordinator), Daniele Scarpelli (educator – facilitator), Giulia Rosco (photographer), Elio Fortunato (digital manager).

COSMO operates throughout the area of ​​the historic center of the city, starting from the three cultural centers present there: House of Cultures, Cinema Italia and Oratory of San Gaetanoa space that is about to become, thanks also to the work carried out by the architecture collective horizontal, a creative and professional co-working and incubator for artists, artisans and digital nomadsa factory that will not only be a laboratory of ideas, but a research platform for creative minds who wish to leave a tangible mark on the urban fabric of Cosenza. COSMOS aims to give impetus to the project a Cosenza that can welcome and be culturally attractive for local people but also for tourists, national and international students, digital nomads and professionals tired of large centres. In this context, the activities and services that they intend to offer in the urban area of ​​Cosenza involve citizens and include non-formal education workshops and events, workshops in collaboration with international and national professionals, activities that encourage information, listening, dialogue and collaboration. In addition to this COSMO promotes the birth of 12 new businesseswho will follow paths to accompany the design with phases of listening and involvement.

COSMOS and also a digital container that aims to communicate and enhance in a strategic way the urban territory in which it is located, with tailor-made storytelling, through multimedia contents that enhance its identity and stories. To deal with the local community and the identity of the city, the hybrid working group (in connection with local associations and bodies) started with research in the area, based both on research from historical sources and on more empirical research, based on the interview and “conversation” with representative people of the city who provided important information to define the geographical and cultural boundaries of Cosenza. The first laboratory that officially inaugurated COSMO’s activities at the beginning of March saw the participation of the artist/educator Roberto Alfano. Alfano led a “Creative Reuse Laboratory“, also created thanks to the participation of Lotta Senza Quartiere ODV, involving children and young people who live in the neighborhoods of the historic center and who, through the collection of waste and/or other waste material, have created “Shack no. 3”, an artistic installation that now stands out in the heart of Santa Lucia. The “Italian Cinema Area Laboratory“, a week of meetings and activities between the students of the Lucrezia della Valle high school with the realities present in the Rivocati district, in which the participants will be able to deepen their knowledge of the territory and its social realities, with the aim of creating a new symbolism for the districts of the historic center.
