Massimo Zedda (re)candidate for mayor in Cagliari: “City of peace for development”

«What if we thought about making Sant’Elia a second beach?». Massimo Zedda throws it there, from Via Emilia, where Campo Largo met to explain the project that accompanies the re-nomination of the former mayor as mayor, for the third time, after 2011 and 2016. Next to Zedda, the owner at home, Guido Portoghese, city secretary of the Democratic Party, and further to the left the governor Alessandra Todde. And again, on both sides of Zedda and Todde, the other allies.

The mayoral candidate, not without emotion, spoke for fifteen minutes and explained his idea of the city. With a premise: «After the coalition indicated me as a candidate for mayor on Monday, I asked President Todde for an appointment and we said to ourselves what Cagliari and the metropolitan city can do for the Region and what the Region can do for Cagliari and the City subway”.

Zedda then said that the capital of the island “in the center of the Mediterranean must become the city of peace”.
Then the daily problems of Cagliari, starting with parking: «In the Via Roma area there are three regional departments that have dozens and dozens of parking spaces, I am referring to Health, Environment and Tourism. Those spaces can be made available to the city in the afternoons when there are no returns and always on weekends.”
Zedda then spoke about the other government objectives: «Attracting investments and defending those who already operate in Cagliari. We must rebuild the city of culture, shows and events. We need to redevelop the port area with shipbuilding, nautical is one of the sectors that must grow. Bringing one of the America’s Cup regattas to the city is a goal.”
Zedda says that “artificial intelligence, with the development of patents and start-ups, must become an opportunity for growth”. The candidate for mayor of Campo Largo also imagined the city of education, “the excellence of our schools must continue to improve it”. Zedda has not forgotten sport and “the construction of the new stadium, our project for 2021”.

It is impossible not to refer to the legacy of the outgoing council: «In Via Roma we will stop works that can cause damage to the city, such as the placement of plants that are too tall and incompatible with a seaside area». The candidate then explained: «Those who live in Via Roma on the lower floors must be able to continue to see the sea and those arriving from the sea must be able to see the beauty of the street and the historic buildings». Then there is “a traffic problem”, he added, “the traffic that was previously distributed over six lanes cannot be conveyed in just two lanes”. And again: when the slabs of Via Roma are rearranged on the port side, «and this is a necessary intervention, we will ask the Port Authority to be able to temporarily divert some of the traffic».
