Mobility and well-being, pact between Fiab and Recui

Education and active mobility are fundamental elements for the well-being of our cities. It is on this principle that the framework agreement signed between Fiab-Italian Environment and Bicycle Federation and Recui-Network of Italian UNESCO chairs is based for the development of shared projects in favor of the territories and the people who live there, aimed at promoting a style of active life starting from mobility choices. “The idea of observing the territory and the communities that inhabit it means rethinking welfare and wellbeing together, bringing the theme of health not only to an absence of disease, but to the ability to see oneself in the surrounding space and in time ” said Recui spokesperson Patrizio Bianchi at the time of signing the agreement, which took place on the occasion of the Education, science and culture of mobility and wellbeing in our cities event, hosted by the UNESCO Chair ‘Education, growth and equality’ of the University of Ferrara.

“The city is undoubtedly one of the best inventions of homo sapiens even if, after almost eight thousand years, it has been transformed in the last 50-60 years into a pathogenic reality, especially for children and the elderly – added Andrea Lenzi, professor of the UNESCO Chair ‘Education and research for improved urban health and wellbeing in cities’ of the La Sapienza University of Rome – one of the simplest and least expensive therapies to combat this situation is walking or cycling”. That active and sustainable mobility is an essential solution for urban areas is a concept well known to Fiab, as underlined by president Alessandro Tursi: “Making cities bicycle-friendly means making them accessible, not only as a leisure destination but also for more qualified training and better job opportunities, the bike is also a tool for socio-economic inclusion, whereas car-friendly cities have become increasingly unlivable and exclusive”. In line with the objectives of the UN Agenda 2023, Fiab and Recui recognize the importance of promoting actions to combat climate change and protect the environment.
