The financiers of the Naval Station of the Guardia di Finanza of Pescara, in two separate operations, identified and seized a total of approximately 3000 meters of fishing nets without markings and placed in prohibited areas. In the first case, in the waters in front of Francavilla al mare (CH), the yellow flames of the sea,
they discovered a fishing net that did not comply with current laws in terms of positioning and signaling.
The diving operators of the Diving Unit therefore carried out a reconnaissance dive
by recovering and seizing over 2500 meters of nets used for poaching, positioned just over a meter deep. Part of the net was positioned inside the breakwater cliffs, making it extremely dangerous for both divers and water sports practitioners.
Subsequently, a few days later and following the report received by the public utility number
“117” from a private citizen, the military carried out an investigation activity within which
operated at 360 degrees, i.e. with underwater inspections, coastal reconnaissance thanks to the use of increasingly
efficient naval means and land stakeouts to identify network positions and an individual’s modus operandi
who had long been addicted to poaching. The financiers stopped a few meters away at first light
from the coast, in the waters in front of the municipality of San Vito Chietino (CH), a fisherman with unmarked and cleverly hidden nets, over 500 meters long. Therefore, they were seized and the subject was charged with an administrative fine of 2000 euros and a deduction of 7 points from the fishing license as per current legislation.
All the fish products seized in the various operations were donated to charitable organizations in Pescara. The Guardia di Finanza tends to guarantee on the one hand the protection of the territory and resources, and on the other to prevent someone’s incorrectness from indirectly causing damage to those who scrupulously comply with the stringent rules.
