Something more than a banal argument, of those that have always marked the school years for pupils of all ages. Something more than an impromptu argument between two students of the same age. What happened in the gym of one of the best-known schools in Naples is a criminal matter: an affair destined for the work of magistrates to ascertain individual responsibilities. The facts. It’s last April 17th, al Justin Fortunato, we are between 1.30pm and 2pm, when the students are preparing to follow the Physical Education class. Inside the changing rooms, there was an unjustified attack by a student against a peer. According to the first reconstruction, the victim and the attacker are classmates.
First the insults, then the blows. Punched in the face, the victim loses his strength for a few moments, then is helped by other classmates. Broken nose, blood on the face, emergency services begin. The mother of the beaten boy is alerted, and she rushes to school and accompanies her son to the hospital. Taxi ride to the hospital Cardarelli. Moments of tension, admission to the emergency room is decisive to stop the blood and start the medical treatment necessary to heal the wounds.
Everything else is in the medical report attached to the complaint documents: fracture of the nasal bones, with an initial prognosis of 15 days, with hospitalization and indication for immediate surgical treatment. In summary, the 15-year-old is operated on two days after entering the Cardarelli, only to be discharged with the diagnosis of “closed fracture of the nasal bones, surgically reduced”. The rest is the story of an investigation by the Naples Prosecutor’s Office (starting from the juvenile office) which will have to verify the reliability of the complaint, on the basis of the testimonies that will be acquired, but also of the version of the two parties, as well as the medical reports which have been filed in the records. The lawyer formalized the complaint Sara Perrotta who assists the family of the boy forced to resort to medical treatment. According to the first reconstruction, last April 17th would not have been the first attack. Over the course of the last few months, the victim of the beating was allegedly offended and mistreated on more than one occasion. At this point it is necessary to listen to the 15-year-old indicated as responsible for the act of violence that occurred inside the changing rooms. During the complaint, the lawyers also refer to some potential witnesses to the episode. In this sense, the names of at least six students who witnessed the attack were indicated. But that is not all. There is the line of objective responsibility, regarding the responsibility of supervising minor pupils.
The appeal
We are talking about a few moments, it must be clarified, of the gap between one subject and another, which provides for an inevitable (and brief) parenthesis to allow teachers to take control of the management of the class for the following hour. Checks in progress, within an institute represented by teachers and managers who have always been committed to guaranteeing the training offer in the area, as well as promoting protocols aimed at respecting legality. The lawyer explains Sara Perrotta, responsible for equal opportunities on behalf of the Neapolitan Order Council: «We asked to define any responsibilities for the episode reconstructed so far on the basis of the testimonies collected, but also of the medical records that we attach to our complaint. Our interest is not only aimed at protecting a boy who is violently attacked for no reason, but also at preventing an increasingly evident drift.
Complaints and investigations are welcome if we manage to create a barrier against bullying, while we hope that children will be able to come together to prevent serious and unmotivated attacks from recurring.” Meanwhile, in light of the report on the events of April 17th, it is logical to think that there are checks within the institute, based on educational dialogue in an attempt to prevent other episodes of similar gravity.
