REGGIO EMILIA – Fifteen thousand visitors to exhibitions and events, 4,500 tickets sold, one thousand in advance. These are the numbers from the inaugural weekend of the 19th edition of European Photography.
The festival this year didn’t start in the best way, during the inauguration on Friday evening the rain ruined the party a bit. Then, the uncertain weather characterized the whole weekend, but nevertheless the organizers say they are satisfied with the attendance. Last year, with four days of opening instead of three, including May 1st, attendance was double, around 30 thousand. While the last edition closed its doors with 14,326 tickets sold for over 73 thousand attendances in the various exhibition venues.
In these first three days, the meetings with the authors and the conferences, such as that of the actor and narrator, were very popular Marco Paolini at the Cavallerizza theatre. There was also a good presence at the concerts in the square on the two evenings of the weekend Photophonythe event which sees the artistic direction of the producer and co-founder of Subsonica Max Casacci.
Fotografia Europea has always, almost 20 years after its first edition, the great merit of bringing enthusiasts and curious people from different parts of Italy and the world to the city. “This year there are more than 80 accredited journalists demonstrating – the director of Palazzo Magnani explained to our microphones – Davide Zanichelli – a now consolidated attention from the national and international media”. The institutional exhibitions and those of the Off circuit will now remain open until June 9th.
The next appointment is Saturday 4 May with the “Off night”, an evening entirely dedicated to the network of collaborators, exhibitors, photographers, organizers and citizens, who have built the circuit around the institutional event of Fotografia Europea. It starts at 5pm from the Ex Aci, in via Secchi for the presentation of the exhibition organized by the E35 Foundation. At 6.30pm it will depart from via dei due Gobbi marching band Bandakadabra which will cross the streets of the center and some spaces identifying the Off with the overwhelming music of the group and its fun comic-theatrical performances until arriving in Piazza del Popol Giost. The awards ceremony for the winner of the 2024 edition of the Off Circuit will take place here at 8pm.
