BUSTO ARSIZIO – “Busto’s politics he doesn’t want Pums“. In the words spoken by one of the technicians who wrote the Urban Sustainable Mobility Plan there is the meaning of the majority meeting which yesterday evening, 16 April, at Palazzo Gilardoni, scuppered the document proposed bymobility councilor Salvatore Loschiavo. A failure across the board: according to what emerged none of the proposed points were implemented and welcomed positively by centre-right councillors. And the final attempt at review the PUMS, with the work of a small group of the majority, it appears very complicated.
The warnings
Failure was in the air. It had been perceptible among city councilors for some time a transversal discontent towards mobility policies implemented by councilor Loschiavo. The words pronounced by the advisor of Fratelli d’Italia Max Rogorawho had invoked his former secretary Francesco Speroni like PUMS’s “Terminator,” they should have been a wake-up call. In fact, the “Brother” Rogora, together with the Antonellian Matthew Sabbawas among the main pickaxers of the Loschiavo plan. They called him “left-wing” and they demolished it piece by piece, with the support above all of the groups of League and Brothers of Italybut also of part of Lista Antonelli and with Forza Italia in a more moderate position but in any case not in defense of the document. Mayor Emanuele Antonelliwho remained silent, had to take note of the situation and left the meeting before it closed.
Mediation (im)possible
At the end of the meeting an attempt at mediation emerged, with the proposal of re-discuss the PUMS within a small working group, at least to “save” the task of the professionals (and the related compensation) and produce a document shared with the majority. But the Urban Sustainable Mobility Plan it is not mandatory in cities with fewer than 100 thousand inhabitants such as Busto Arsizio, so the administration might never get it approved. And it is, at least at this stage, the prevailing opinion among the councilors who scuppered the plan.
