At the end of the preliminary ritual investigations, i Carabinieri of the Operational and Radiomobile Unit of the Pisticci Company have reported in a state of freedom to the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Ordinary Court of Matera, for the crime of aggravated brawl – without prejudice to the presumption of innocence until a final conviction is issued – 8 citizens, all residents of Bernalda, aged between 21 and 60some of whom had police records for crimes against the person, against property and also in relation to drugs, who shortly before had become protagonists of a violent brawl broke out near Palacampagna.
The Carabinieri intervened around 4.00 pm following some reports received by the Single Emergency Number 112through the analysis of video surveillance footage in the area and the acquisition of summary information from people who had witnessed the events, they reconstructed the story, also finding and seizing a wooden stick and a knife used by one of the participants in the fight.
The violent episode apparently originated from a disagreement over traffic issues, arose between the eldest of those involved and a 42-year-old, verbally reprimanded by the former because he allegedly drove his car via Savonarola (adjacent to the sports hall) at a speed deemed excessive.
The verbal confrontation soon gave way to a physical confrontation, in which the older subject, brandishing a wooden stick about 80 cm long, hit the antagonistin which friends immediately intervened, already on site because they had an appointment there, who disarmed the attacker and continued the fight with him, for a total of 8 people involved.
During the various phases, characterized by mutual exchange of pushing and tugging, the older person also took out a knife with a 7 cm blade that he kept in his carbrandishing it towards all the opponents, without however managing to attract anyone, because it came hit by a violent kick to the head delivered by one of the 7, which made him fall disastrously to the ground, causing him multiple facial contusions.
Together with the military, the police also arrived on site operators of 118 Basilicatawho transported the injured man to the Madonna delle Grazie hospital in Matera for treatment.
Having identified the participants in the brawl and seized the instruments used to offend, the military reported all those involved for brawling, and the only one injured also for unjustified carrying of objects suitable for offending, crimes for which they will have to answer to the Judicial Authority of Matera .
It should be noted that the investigations carried out so far are still in the preliminary investigation phase and require subsequent procedural verification in the cross-examination with the defence.
