Bolzano Film Festival Bozen: the Euregio-Young-Jury at work

Wednesday 17 April – 06.34

The short film is considered a field of experimentation for directors and training for young talents. This film genre is now at the center of the new “Maso” training program, aimed at film professionals from all over the world. The initiative was created by Idm Alto Adige, the Bolzano Film Festival Bozen, the cultural offices of the Province of Bolzano and partners. The project aims to especially reach people belonging to underrepresented social groups and minorities. “With its style and particular characteristics, a well-made short film fascinates and enriches the industry as an independent genre – underlines Vera Leonardelli, Business Development director of Idm Alto Adige – This cinematographic art form is particularly important for the new generations, as it provides good access to the sector, it also offers visibility to young South Tyrolean talents and to South Tyrol as a film location, thanks to the attention of the industry in the most important short film festivals”. “Maso is a new initiative with an absolutely international scope, which arises from the fruitful collaboration between the Bolzano Film Festival Bozen and the Idm Film Commission – states Vincenzo Bugno, artistic director of the Bffb – precisely this international aspect, this going beyond borders, which I find particularly interesting, because it allows us to network, exchange experiences and learn from each other” The “Maso” training program is aimed at emerging talents and professionals. Creative duos, composed of an author or director on one side and a producer on the other, can present a project idea for a short film. From all the projects submitted, eight projects will be selected to participate in the training program, so that a total of 16 professionals can develop the short films and produce them for distribution. The program will consist of two workshops and several mentoring sessions conducted by internationally renowned experts. The first workshop will be held in November 2024 at the FilmCamp Norway in verbygd, Norway, while the second in April 2025 during the Bolzano Film Festival Bozen, in Alto Adige. The eight selected projects will also be supported in the financing and distribution phase.
