Focus on drugs and addictions in the province of Alessandria

ALEXANDRIA – It was held this morning, at the conference room of the Provincial Carabinieri Commandthe inter-institutional conference set up as a discussion table on the topic of the dthe infusion of new and old drugs on the territory of the Province of Alessandria.

The speakers, Dr Luigi BartolettiDirector of the Department of Addictive Pathology (Ser.D.), Dr Maria Matilde CirielloDirector of the Analysis Laboratory of the University Hospital of Alessandria (AOUAL), Dr. Daniele ZambonHead of the Analytical, Occupational and Forensic Toxicology Structure of the University Hospital of Alessandria (AOUAL), Dr. Riccardo BoverioDirector of the Department of Emergency Medicine – Urgency of the AOUAL, Dr Carlo LocatelliDirector of the Poison Control Center and National Toxicological Information Center of the Maugeri Institute for Scientific Hospitalization and Treatment (IRCCS) in Pavia, and the Mar. Maj. Gianluca Bellihead of the Laboratory of Analysis of Narcotic Substances (LASS) of the Carabinieri Provincial Command of Alessandria, addressed the delicate problem of the diffusion of narcotic substances from the perspective of their specific sector of expertise.

The conference opened from Colonel Massimiliano RoccoProvincial Commander of the Carabinieri of Alessandria, who after the honors illustrated the purposes of the meeting: «This moment, which serves as a table for discussion on issues relating to the spread of substances in the territory and the appearance of any new ones, also has the purpose of analyzing and contrasting the phenomenon, differentiated and related to the different perspectives of each sector: investigative, healthcare, social and toxicology».

Doctor Luigi Bartoletti is an intervention on the topic of pathological addiction and the psychological consequences deriving from the intake of old and new doping substances with attention to the analysis of the data acquired during the treatment of patients. Next up, the doctor Maria Matilde Ciriello and Dr Daniele Zambon they addressed the toxicological analysis protocols in relation to the various situations, describing the critical issues arising from the detection of new substances but also the possibilities of analysis upon request of the competent offices. Doctor Riccardo Boverio he then spoke on the topic of the procedures envisaged for the execution of toxicological tests at the request of the police with the related critical issues relating to the chain of custody of the finds, while Doctor Carlo Locatelli spoke about the epidemiological analysis of new drugs in the territory of the Province of Alessandria, possibly relating it to the national territory.

The Mar. Maj. Gianluca Bellihead of the Laboratory of Analysis of Narcotic Substances (LASS) of the Carabinieri of Alessandria, illustrated the activity of the laboratory, summarized by a summary of the analyzes conducted in 2023 on the narcotic substances seized in the commands of the provinces of competence and therefore indicative of the action of law enforcement carried out by the Army in the province in relation to the neighboring provinces, opening a focus also on new drugs appearing on the national territory and, in particular, in the province.
