JESI Pierluigi Bocchini is not one for half measures. The president of Confindustria and Clabo, world leader in professional exhibition showcases, after having endured a two-kilometre queue on the highway, towards Jesi-capital, and having arrived at the source of the chaos, blurts out. “It’s a scandal.” He doesn’t hesitate to transform his bewilderment into an online manifesto, at the speed of a post. «The Autostrade company – this is the anatomy of the inconvenience – had closed one of the three entrance toll booths, in northern Ancona, due to a heavy vehicle carrying an exceptional load, parked ten meters from the entrance gate».

Chaos

It sets the tone for a timetable which was certainly not created under the best auspices: «It was a hubbub, on a day which was not congested by the traffic generated by the ferries, with the coming and going of cars and trucks going to and from Greece and Albania, and of that of those who embark on cruises from Dorica. Without considering the dangers that crept in from that exhausting queuing.” And it is here that the leader of the industrialists unrolls his proclamation. It does so by exploiting the persuasive power of a rhetorical question: «Can you imagine what it will be like in a year, when another 40/50 trucks per hour will pass over that same asphalt strip, those that will transport the goods distributed by Amazon in departure from our Interport? He does not allow great margins of maneuver in the reflection of the case. Rather, it anticipates the closing credits: «Everything will stop, because it will burden an A14 junction that is already very, very busy». To untie a knot that is potentially already so tight as to take your breath away, Bocchini reiterates his solution: «Create a link from the Interporto, which in the future will not have to be functional to the movements of the American e-commerce giant, and the entrance station of Montemarciano”.

The president streamlines the flow of circulation, bypasses the obstacle and puts figures on it: «It would be four and a half kilometers in total. It would be an operation worth 15/20 million euros, plus project costs.” He turbocharges an idea that he has always believed in: «To realize it, if we started immediately, we could also hope to engage the resources of the Pnrr, the national recovery and resilience plan. Despite the deadline imposed by the procedure set for 2026, I presume that some extension will be granted.”

The wall

Bocchini accelerates again, until he brakes in front of the barrier erected by the mayors of the area: the no of Jesi, Chiaravalle, Montemarciano and the Province. “I do not agree. They invoke the principle according to which land must not be consumed.” He instills the doubt that what moves them is a question of flags. «They are all centre-left, of the opposite sign to what distinguishes Palazzo Raffaello, i.e. the Region, and the Doric municipality». He returns to secular ground, and it is there that he delivers his blow: “For them it seems much better to practice ostrich politics.” He asks the opening question again: “Can you imagine what it will be like in a year?”. Seeing is believing.
